WHAT PEOPLE SAY
I was looking for an affordable place to stay, close to the beach that had a pool and a private kitchen and what I found at Playa Negra Surf Lodge was so much more. My room was beautiful, clean, private, had an amazing AC and fan, and the perfect kitchen. The bathroom was spacious and had a shower and plenty of hot water. I could easily walk or ride a bike (they also rent bikes) to the beach that was only 3 blocks away. The beach had two beaches, Playa Negra point break which is a world class surf break and right next to it was Sandy beach a little cove with a sandy bottom perfect for swimming, families and longboarding. There is a great restaurant at the lodge with a really healthy menu and American and Tico fare. Also they sell gourmet coffee and Chai tea with almond milk (not so easy to find in CR). They have a cute round pool to cool off on hot days, a beautiful garden and hammocks and adirondack chairs to lounge in. Plenty of private parking included and a privacy gate. Local vendors deliver produce and baked goods biweekly to the lodge. It is located within walking distance to the local skatepark and farmers/craft market, as well as two local mini stores where you can buy groceries and toiletries. Playa Negra is only 30 min from Tamarindo and Santa Cruz and is also close to many amazing beaches including junquillal, playa blanca, avellanas, and callejones. Keilyn and Mike are the most gracious hosts. They answered any questions about the area. Keilyn helped me schedule a quick covid test before my flight home and the doctor came to me to administer the test for about $55, way cheaper than the usual $100 test 30-40min away from my other visits at different hotels. Social distancing is easy at the lodge even when it is full. I highly recommend this amazing lodge and I stay here everytime I visit CR which is usually 2-3 times a year.
